Ben Urquhart recently joined the Stride Capital team as a Leasing Sales Coordinator. We sat down with him to learn more about his previous experience, what opportunities he’s looking forward to as a part of Stride, and more. Keep reading to learn more about the newest addition to the Stride family!

Tell us about your previous work experience and education and how it led you to Stride.

In 2025, I graduated from Mount Royal University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Creative Writing. After graduating, I worked as a landscaper until I joined Stride. My education provided me with excellent communication and research skills, while my work experience gave me a strong work ethic and emphasis on teamwork. It’s not the most traditional path, but I think my combination of school and work experience will serve me well in my new role. 

What are you looking forward to about your new role as Leasing Sales Coordinator for Stride?

I’m looking forward to being part of a big team and learning more about this industry. In my first few days, I’ve already been exposed to so many new things and I’m trying to absorb as much as possible. I’m excited to get to know everybody, support them in my new role, and learn lots.

What opportunities do you see as part of Stride and within this new role?

I love learning new skills and being challenged: this is my first role in the financial industry, so I’m being exposed to a lot of new concepts. This job is an interesting intersection between the blue collar and finance industry, and I’m excited to explore this crosshatch. And be in an air-conditioned office during the summer.

Can you tell us a bit about your experience working in a team environment, managing client relationships, and within finance? How will this experience help you excel in your role?

In my previous role as a landscaper, I was a crew lead: this taught me how to manage a team and get work done as efficiently and painlessly as possible. I interacted with multiple customers daily, so I quickly learned how to form positive business relationships and get my company good worth-of-mouth. During my time at Mount Royal, I served in the executive role of treasurer for the Creative Writing Club, which gave me some experience working with finances. I helped market our student club and promote a welcoming community: by the time I left, we had grown from 4 members to over 100. I think team environments bring out the best in me and I’m excited to implement my learnings at Stride!

What is your life like outside of work?

I love exercising (weightlifting, martial arts, cycling), writing, and watching all kinds of movies. I volunteer down at the South Health Campus here in Calgary once a week. I’m currently getting back into sports like soccer and basketball!
