Tivon Cox recently joined the Stride Capital team as a Leasing Sales Coordinator, providing support to both our internal team and valued clients. We took the time to chat with Tivon about his previous work experience and education, what opportunities he sees on the horizon, and more. Welcome to the team, Tivon! Keep reading to learn more.

Tell us about your previous work experience and education and how it led you to Stride. 

I started my career in Ontario, where I worked in the medical field, before moving to Calgary and shifting into financial services. I began in retail banking on the front end, building strong client-facing and communication skills, and later moved into operational support, where I gained experience on the back-office side of banking. Having exposure to both sides gave me a well-rounded understanding of financial processes. I’ve always wanted to get into this side of financial services, so when the opportunity to join Stride and grow within equipment finance arose, it felt like the right step forward.

What are you looking forward to about your new role as Leasing Sales Coordinator for Stride? 

I’m really looking forward to learning more about this side of financial services and building a long-term career in equipment finance. This role gives me the chance to understand all sides of the business, which is something I’ve always valued. Being able to learn, grow, and develop a deeper understanding of the industry is what excites me most about joining Stride.

What opportunities do you see as part of Stride and within this new role?

I was pursuing a business degree, influenced in part by both of my parents who are accountants and inspired me to follow a similar path. During my studies, I joined the Mount Royal University Co‑op Program, which helps students build their careers and gain real‑world experience. Through that program, I came across a posting from Stride for a Sales Coordinator position and decided to apply. Fortunately, they took a chance on me, and that opportunity opened the door to an entirely new industry. As I settled into the role, I became increasingly interested in the equipment leasing and finance space and realized how much potential there was for growth and learning.

Can you tell us a bit about your experience working in a team environment, managing client relationships, and doing financial analysis? How will this experience help you excel in your role?

Every role I’ve had in the finance industry has been in a team environment, and I’ve learned how crucial collaboration is to getting things done efficiently. My team mentality is something I take pride in, and I always try to help the people I work with and contribute positively to my work environment. My frontline experience, combined with some backend exposure, really helped me understand the importance of managing client relationships, since they’re ultimately what keeps any business moving forward.

Financial analysis is also something I’ve focused on throughout my career, and it’s an area I’m still learning and improving in every day. All of these experiences together will help me excel in this role, and I’m looking forward to continuing to grow in each of these areas as part of the Stride team.

What is your life outside of work like?

Outside of work, I like to keep things balanced and active. I enjoy hanging out with friends, grabbing drinks, snowboarding in the winter, going to the gym, and playing basketball. When I’m looking to unwind, I’m usually playing video games or spending time with people I’m close to. Staying social and active is a big part of my life, and it helps keep me energized for the work week.
