Q&A with Gordon Wood on his 6-year anniversary with Stride Capital

Stride Capital on February 5th, 2025 in   Press Release

Gordon Wood is celebrating his 6-year anniversary with Stride Capital this week. Congratulations, Gordon! Born and raised in Saskatchewan, and with over 20 years of experience in equipment finance, Gordon knows both equipment and Saskatchewan businesses inside and out. His thorough knowledge has helped him provide top notch equipment financing to clients across Saskatchewan throughout the past 6 years. Keep reading to learn about Gordon’s career with Stride, some of the lessons he’s learned along the way, what he enjoys most about his role, and more.

How has your role evolved over the past 6 years, and what have your growth and Stride Capital’s growth looked like during this time?

Over the years, my role has evolved from Account Manager to Senior Account Manager with Stride Capital. Throughout the past 6 years, I’ve learned a lot from managers and other team members which has contributed to my growth. Seeing larger and more complex client files and unique assets has allowed me to gain knowledge and expertise during my time with Stride, helping me provide more impactful solutions for our clients.

What’s one of your favorite memories from your time with Stride so far?

My favorite memories are always when we get together as a team and discuss our experiences, examples of files, what is going on in each territory, and how we were able to work out a positive solution with our clients. Getting together allows us to connect and collaborate face to face with team members from other departments who do a lot of work to support us while we are on the road and in and out of meetings. Without them, I would spend most of my time in my office, rather than meeting clients to more thoroughly understand what they do. We all get along and have fun when we have the time together. I always wish we could see each other more—we are a team.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned during your time here?

The most valuable lesson I have learned is to really get to know what the client is wanting to achieve. It’s essential to look at all the information about the deal and their business in order to be a true partner to them. I am used to having a product that needs to be sold and doing the financing to facilitate the sale. But providing top quality business for these clients is key to growing our reach. Our territories are large but the client’s reach to other potential clients is even bigger. Working from a place of repeat and referral business is essential for success and allows us to help more business owners across Canada to move their businesses forward.

What do you enjoy most about working with your team and contributing to Stride Capital’s mission?

What I enjoy the most is being able to pick up the phone and talk to anyone on our team to get direction for our clients quickly. When one of our clients needs help, we can typically have someone get them an answer/solution the same day.

How do you stay motivated and inspired after 6 years, and what excites you about the future with the company?

I am motivated by growing my client base, meeting new people, and learning and understanding new products and industries. I’ve always wanted to get to a place in my career where most of the people in the Transport, Construction, Agriculture, and Manufacturing industries know me and Stride Capital as a trusted source of financing and consulting.
